Projectplace is a Web-based project management tool, available as a subscription service from the Swedish application service provider, Projectplace International AB. Launched in September 1998, it was one of the first hosted Web applications available on a pay-per-use basis.
Projectplace International is the European leader in project collaboration on the Web. The company has been developing online project tools inspired by social project management since 1998, . Today, the service is available in seven languages and has been used by over 900,000 users. The company has a total of 170 employees, based at its headquarters in Stockholm and in local offices in Amsterdam, Bangalore, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, London and Oslo.

In May 2012, a complete redesign of Projectplace was launched. Besides an update of existing features, the launch featured a new set of social planning tools as well as new mobile applications for iPad and Android. The new tools, which include an actions board, widgets and an interactive timeline, are designed to improve collaboration, efficiency, engagement and project success in both enterprise-wide implementations and cross-organisational project teams.
The service is available in several languages: Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, English, German, French, Spanish and Danish.
In August 2014, the software was acquired by Planview, an American project management software developing company based in Austin, Texas.
==Software development==

Projectplace software is based on BSCW (Basic Support for Cooperative Work), a shared workspace platform developed by the German National Research Center for Information Technology (GMD). Projectplace AB founders Mattias Hällström, Magnus Ingvarsson and Peter Johansson, while working at the Swedish Institute for Systems Development (SISU), participated in the development of BCSW. In March, 1998, the three acquired a BSCW source code license and began to develop Projectplace as a commercial application.()()
In 2000, the Projectplace platform won for Best Supporting Technology or Service in the European Commission-organized e-Work Awards, as an example of a best practice in new working environments for the "Information Society".()
